I have made paintings and drawings of one sort or another for over forty years, a pursuit that is, by its nature, done alone. But far from feeling lonely all those hours in the studio, the process of making paintings continues to excite, engage and invigorate me.
I paint realistically. When you look at a landscape, still life or figurative painting of mine, there is no question what you're seeing.
As a painter, I am fascinated by the properties of color and light and shadow as they affect both the image and my own sense of time, place and inner harmony. While this focus influences both the visual elements of the work and my needs as an artist, the paintings stand or fall on their own.
When I paint, I want to share what moves me and to open up the possibility of a new way of seeing for the viewer. Light, form and color are my vocabulary.
I hope the passion I feel for what I do shows. Thank you for taking the time to look.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
Inspiration is all around me. The small moments, the ordinary objects, the things we see every day; Light, form and color make up my vocabulary so that I may share what I experience.
I am a realist. My medium is oil on canvas or panel. Sometimes I use gold leaf in combination with paint. In my early years, I worked in soft pastels.
My work is included in the permanent collections of five museums. I was the subject of a feature article written by M. Stephen Doherty for American Artist magazine. My work was also included in an article about American pastel artists that appeared in the UK. Two of my paintings were included in an exhibition at the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C. That exhibition, More than Land or Sky, toured the U.S. for two years.
